SNOW MAN ON THE PITCHER’S MOUND
by Jamie Reno

What is it like for a child to lose a family member through death or to learn that a parent has cancer? Few books address the issue with so much heartfelt perception as Jamie Reno in his juvenile novel SNOWMAN ON THE PITCHER’S MOUND. A child is most vulnerable when a parent becomes ill. How can we help the child cope with the confusion, fear, and despair that are difficult to articulate? Tyler Paulson, age 10, is still getting over his grandfather’s death and now must learn to live with his mother’s severe cancer diagnosis. Told in a touching, thoughtful and sometimes humorous voice, the novel presents us with a very human problem. Young Tyler, after struggling with these issues, learns how the game of baseball can help him begin to deal with loss. This book, published in association with the Children’s Treehouse Foundation, is highly recommended.
